This special feature is the outcome of the symposium "The Biogeography of Disease" organized by Sam Scheiner and Kate Morris at the 2009 Meeting of the IBS in Merida, Mexico. The issue includes research covering emerging diseases and more traditional areas of biogeography such as the nature of ecogeographic rules in a suite of 15 articles.
