Professorship in Remote Sensing in Earth Surface Dynamics

The Faculty of Geosciences and Environment at the University of Lausanne invites applications for a
professorship in Remote Sensing with a particular focus upon the development of cutting-edge methods, algorithms and techniques and with application domains that relate to the research interests of the newly created Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics.

We expect the successful applicant to be expert in one or both of:
• the processing and analysis of satellite or airborne remote sensing data (multi-, hyper-spectral, radar, ultra high resolution, etc.);
• statistical image and signal processing, pattern recognition, statistical data analysis for remote sensing;

The candidate must have a sufficient background in and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching remote sensing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Teaching activities will also include participating in doctoral programs and supervising Master and Ph.D. theses and the candidate should have a track record in this area.  A good command in both French and English is preferable.

The successful candidate is expected to have a proven capacity or potential of developing an internationally competitive research program in the field of Remote Sensing, and to interact and create synergies with researchers of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment.

Application deadline: May 10, 2014

Starting date: February 1, 2015 (or to be agreed upon)

Applications are to be submitted by e-mail only to the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment (teledetection.gse@unil.ch).

The application material should include:
• a letter explaining the reasons for applying
• a Curriculum Vitae including the date of birth and the date of thesis with its title
• a list of publications
• a statement of research and teaching goals and interest (not exceeding 3 pages)
• pdfs of the five most significant publications
• the names and contact information of five referees.

Please note that the maximum file size that can be received by the University of Lausanne e-mail system is 10 Mb. Larger files should be split accordingly and sent sequentially.

For any specific enquiries, please contact Prof. Stuart Lane (stuart.lane@unil.ch) Director of the Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics.

The application should be sent electronically to: teledetection.gse@unil.ch. An automatic reply will acknowledge reception of the file.  In case of problem, please contact (florence.parmelin@unil.ch)
